CONTENT OF THE MODULE
CONCEPT OF RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE
Religion intolerance is when people who practice a particular religion refuse to recognize and respect other people’s religion or believe. They see their own religion as the only true religion while every other person’s religion is not important. These people are called religious fanatics.
CAUSES OF RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE
- Illiteracy
- tribalism
- Impatience
- Selflessness
- Ethnicity
- Poverty
- Influence of foreign rivals
CONTROLLING RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE
- People should be educated and enlightened on religious matter.
- Nigeria should remain a secular state.
- Proscription of fanatical group’s i.e. they should be taken to the court.
- Religious organization should learn to work together as one body.
- Religious bodies to pay compensation for damages done by their members.
- Police should intervene against fanatics.
- People should develop the habit of peaceful co- existence in spite of religious differences
