My father always gave his share of the catch to me to guard while he went to help another group. At first I sat there patiently and proudly guarding the growing pile of fish. But then a group of my friends came by laughing and playing. They called me and I left my post to play with them for a few minutes but always with frequent glances at my pile of fish and with one eye on the figure of my father. If anyone came too near my fish or if my father turned in my direction, I hurried back to my post. But the morning was long and hot, and I was only five years old. I became tired , hungry and thirsty, food sellers went to and fro among the fishermen , with traps of tempting cakes , fruit and sweet upon their heads . I looked longingly at the food, but I had no money to buy things with, then one day, I made a discovery which was to lead me into such a tangled web of deception that I was in end unable to extract myself from it. I discovered that the food sellers would accept fish in payment for their wares.
I began by exchanging the smallest fish in exchange for oranges or a piece of sugarcane , then with a larger fish, I bought cakes and sweets and shared them with my friends . Atlast the day came when in a reckless burst of goodwill or bid for popularity, I exchanged my whole pile of fish for food, and distributed it among the children who came crowding around me.

Grandpa once told me the story of a girl, named Hawa. She was taken away from her home at the age of nine, against her consent, due to the poor economic condition experienced in her home.
She went through hell on earth. Her plight was worsened by the tedious tasks she was forced to do where she was taken to. ‘I wish I was never born,’ were the words of Hawa one day when the ‘going` became too tough for her.
Her case was not that different from that of her counterparts who were trafficked to Europe to work as prostitutes on the basis that they were being taken there for schooling by some business men who pretended to be ‘God sent`. On getting to Europe they discovered that they had been deceived, and there was no going back.
Hawa and her counterparts were enslaved, their basic human rights was taken away from them. Grandpa said victims are most of the time tricked and lured by false promises. At times they were physically forced; some were used as debt bondage.
Children like Hawa are always sad, tired and unable to continue their education. Most of the time, they are exposed to serious hazards, including sexual harrassment and they are usually paid little or no money. They are exploited.

A consumer is an individual who buys products or services for personal use and not for manufacture or resale. A consumer is someone who can make decision whether or not to purchase an item at the store, and someone who can be influenced by marketing and advertisements. Any time someone goes to a store, and purchases a toy, shirt, beverage or anything else, they are making that decision as a consumer.
A consumer is a person or a group of people such as a household who are the final users of products or services. The consumer’s use is final in the sense that the product is usually not improved by the use. In other words, he or she is one who pays to consume the goods and services produced.
As such, consumers play a vital role in the economic system of a nation. In the absence of effective consumer demand, producers would lack one of the key motivations to produce: to sell to consumer, as the consumer also forms part of the chain of distribution. When business people and economists talk of consumer, an aggregated commodity item with little individuality other than that expressed in the decision to buy or not to buy.
