                              CONTENT OF THE LESSON

MEANING OF NATIONAL HONOUR AWARDS

National honour are awards that are officially given to a person for his/her contributions to the development of the Nation. Nigeria also offer national honour awards to Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to appreciate their good works yearly.

This has been instituted by the national honours Act No.5 of 1964, during first republic of Nigeria, to honour Nigerians who have delivered good services that the nation as gained.

TYPES OF NATIONAL AWARDS

The national award is largely categorized into two orders of dignity, namely:

  1. The order of the federal republic
  2. The order of the Niger

The ranks of these categories are as follows:

  1. Grand Commander
  2. Commander
  3. Officer
  4. Member

The following awards are the Nigerian national honours awards

  1. Grand Commander of the Order of the federal republic (GCFR)
  2. Grand commander of the order of the Niger (GCON)
  3. Commander of the order of the federal republic (CFR)
  4. Commander of the order of the Niger (CON)
  5. Officer of the order of the federal  republic (OFR)
  6. Officer of the order  of the Niger (OON)
  7. Member of the order of the federal Republic (MFR)
  8. Member of the order of the Niger (MON)

REASONS FOR NATIONAL HONOURS AWARDS

  1. To encourage he person and other people to do more
  2. To show the result for hardwork.
  3. For excellence
  4. To promote patriotism
  5. To promote selfless services
  6. For meritorious service
