ROLES OF ARMED FORCES IN PREVENTING CRIMES
According to section in 217 of the 1999 constitution, functions of the military in National security are;
- Defending Nigeria from external aggression; The Nigerian armed forces are expected to ward off any attempt by any nation to fight Nigeria either through land ,air or sea,
- Maintaining Nigeria territorial and securing its borders
- Suppressing insurrection and act in aid of social authorities to restore order;
- Whenever there is a serious breakdown of law and order, uncontrollable violence or chaos, the military could be called upon by the president to intervene
