                           MODULE   CONTENT

A question tag is an expression that you add to the end of a statement to make it a question or know that someone agrees with you.

E.g. what is your name?

Does she?

QUESTION TAG PARTS

Question tag, have two part in a sentence. These are the body and the tail.

You are a girl, aren’t you?

From the sentence above.

“You are a girl” is the body of the sentence while “Aren’t you” is the tail in the sentence.

QUESTION TAG RULES

The following are rules in question tags.

1. When the body is positive, the tail is negative.

Examples

1. We have Notes to copy, don’t we?
2. Today is Friday, isn’t it?
3. When the body is negative, the tail is positive.

Examples

1. We don’t have notes to write, do we?
2. We aren’t late, are we?

• When the verb has no auxiliary, then we use: do, does. Did.

Examples

He don’t want that, does she?

I ate rice, didn’t I?

USING QUESTION TAG AND ANSWERING TAG

Examples:

Her name is Esther, isn’t it? Yes it is.

“Her name is Esther” is the Body.

“Isn’t it?” is the tail.

“Yes it is” is the answer tag.

PRESENTATION

• The Teacher explains the lessons.
