English Language third term Scheme of work for Nigeria junior secondary school three (JSS3) students.
Week 1
Resumption test on/Revision of second term’s work.
Week 2
- The consonants /θ/ and /ð/.
- Using modal verbs and other forms to express permission.
Identifying active and passive verbs.- Composing a simple poem in a concise, unique but high language.
Week 3
- Consonants and sound usage: The consonants /s/ and /ʃ/ contrasted in words like “save/shave”, “suit/shoot”, “sleep/ship” etc.
- Reading to grasp meanings in various context.
- Using modal verbs to express obligation or necessity. e.g. ought, might,
should etc . - Writing a descriptive composition on “Ways to describe accurately”.
Week 4
- Speaking and listening: The consonants /p/ and /b/ contrasted in word usage, e.g. peace/beat, purse/bus, parch/batch etc.
- Modal verbs for expressing possibility.
- Reading for evaluation.
- Expository
composition : Techniques of writing exposition.
Week 5
- Speaking skills: Conversation among students.
- Modal verbs for expressing ability.
- Writing a farewell speech.
- Reading for comprehension.
Week 6
- Listening and speaking: Asking and answering questions.
- Reading comprehension.
- Summary writing.
- Modal verbs for expressing ability.
Week 7
- Intonation: Rising and falling tone.
- Writing skills: Dairy and record keeping.
- Reading skills: Reading for maximum retention and recall.
- Adverbials: Modes of expressing restriction using adverbials.
Week 8
Revision.
Week 9 – 12
Examination.
