CLASSIFICATION OF ANIMALS BASED ON WHERE THEY LIVE

  1. Land Animals: these are animals that live on land. They are also divided into
  2. Terrestrial (land) animals: cats, dog, bear, deer
  3. Arboreal animals: they are animals that live primarily on trees. Examples are squirrel, rodents, monkey, chameleon.
  4. Water (Aquatic) animals:  fishes, crabs, lobsters, crayfish. Periwinkle, prawn, oyster.
  5. Amphibians Animals: they are animals that live both on land and water. E.g. frogs, toads, salamanders.

CLASSIFICATION OF ANIMALS BASED ON USES

  1. Milk (Dairy) producer’s animals: these animals produce milk. E.g. cows goats.
  2. Meat producers: these are animals raised for meat production. E.g. goat, cow, rabbit and hen, pig, sheep.
  3. Egg producers: these are animals that lay eggs. E.g. fowls, geese, turkeys, Guinea fowls, and ducks.
  4. Work animals (beasts of burden): they are kept to help farmers do some hard work like carrying of heavy load, pulling or drawing of carts and ploughs. Examples of such animals are: donkeys, camels, horses, oxen, bullocks.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURE

  • The Teacher revises the previous lesson (CLASSIFICATION OF ANIMALS (LIVE STOCK).
  • The Teacher introduces the topic (CLASSIFICATION OF ANIMALS BASED ON WHERE THEY LIVE).
