MODULE CONTENT
MEANING OF ACCIDENT
According to Oxford dictionary Accident is “an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury.”
An accident is what suddenly happens when one does not expect it and it causes harm or damage. Accident can happen anywhere and at any time.
What is Road? Roads is an open, generally, public way for the passage of vehicles, people and animals.
Road accident is when an unfortunate incident happens unexpectedly on the road that causes harm or injury.
CAUSES OF ROAD ACCIDENT
The following are some of the causes of road accidents
- Bad road
- Over speeding
- Over loading
- Bad weather
- Poor vehicle maintenance
- Bad driving habits
- Fatigue
- Congestion
- Carelessness and inability to interpret road signs
- Bad state of vehicles
HOW TO REMAIN SAFE ON THE ROAD
To be safe means to be protected from danger. The following are ways we can be safe on the road.
- Drive carefully
- Make use of pedestrian crossing
- Always read and understand road signs
- Do not drink and drive
- Prevent distraction while driving
- Establish eye contact with the driver to ensure you have been seen.
- When crossing the road always look for oncoming traffic.
- Avoid crossing in-between vehicles.
REMEDY OF ROAD ACCIDENTS
- Build good road and new road
- Introduce speed limit method
- Good monitoring and use of alcohol detective device
- Enlightenment campaign seminars and workshop for drivers.
