MODULE CONTENT

Water is clearly colourless, odourless and tasteless liquid. Water is very important to all living things (human, animals, and plants).

  • Man – made sources

NATURAL SOURCES OF WATER

  1. Spring water
  2. Rain water
  3. River
  4. Lake
  5. Sea
  6. Ocean

MAN MADE OR ARTIFICIAL SOURCES OF WATER

  1. Bore –hole
  2. Irrigation
  3. Pipe- borne water
  4. Dam

USES OF WATER

The following are some ways we make use of water.

  1. Domestic purpose such as washing, bathing, drinking, flower wetting, cooking.
  2. Transportation purposes: ships. Boats, canoes moves on water.
  3. Industrial uses: used for cooling machines, for mixing chemicals, washing equipment.
  4. Agricultural purposes: crops and animal needs water to survive.
  5. It used to aid our digestive system.

PERSONS AND AGENCIES INVOLVED IN THE PROVISION OF WATER

The Engineers and Public health worker work with the following agencies to provide water to the society.

  1. Water cooperation
  2. Ministry of agriculture and national resources
  3. Water board
  4. Ministry of water resources

WHY WATER IS SOMETIMES SCARCE

  1. Irregular supply of electricity
  2. Climate change
  3. Water rate payment delay
  4. Increase in population
  5. Lack of expert to fix some water machine  issues
  6. Burst pipes
  7. Plant (generator) failure
  8. Lack of funds to buy spare part.

CONSEQUENCES OF WATER SHORTAGE

  1. Outbreak of Water borne diseases
  2. Inadequate electricity
  3. Low income from business owner working with water
  4. Closure of industries
  5. Lack of food crop
  6. death

HOW TO SOLVE PROBLEM OF WATER SHORTAGE

  1. government should provide enough funds for water project and maintenance
  2. maintenance should be carried out when necessary
  3. provision of sufficient spare part
  4. quick repair of damaged pipe
  5. steady supply of electricity
  6. more boreholes should be available
  7. dumping of refuse in rivers should not be allowed

 POPULATION AND WATER SUPPLY

Increase in population growth leads to increase demand for waters, available water supply becomes inadequate, creates needs for more water.
