WEEK 2 – 3: JESUS, the ways to God the father

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher reads john 14 verse 6
2. She explains the verse read to the pupils
3. She  directs the pupils to memorize thee verse
4. Teacher explains that Jesus is the only son of God and it is only through the son you can see the father and that is the only way to see the father.
5. Teacher explains why Jesus is the only way to God, the father.
6. We are sinners and cannot save ourselves
7. He is the truth
8. He is the only way to redemption and salvation etc.
9. She tells the story of Jesus of Jesus and Nicodemus
10. She asks pupils the lesson they have learnt from the story with respect to Jesus being the only way to God. E.g.
11. Leader of the  road to God
12. Guide to the wanderers
13. Teacher of the ignorant
14. Teacher displays pictures or drawings showing Nicodemus meeting Jesus.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

1. Pupils  listen to the passage read
2. They memorize the bible verse
3. They draw out practical lessons from the story.

WEEK 4:  BORN AGAIN

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher leads pupils to explain the meaning of born Again: as a person who has repented of his/her sins and turned to Christ for their salvation to become part of God’s family. Or simply put, someone converted to a personal faith in Christ.
2.  She explains why a person must be born again e.g.
3. To enter into the kingdom of God
4. To escape the wrath/judgement of God
5. To receive the gift of eternity etc.
6. Teacher explain how a person can be born again E.g.
7. Acknowledge that he/she is a sinners
8. Believe that Jesus died for his/her sins
9. Confessed his/her sins
10. Repents
11. Faith in Christ, etc.
12. Teacher organizes a class discussion on the way of becoming born again person e.g.
13. Through baptism
14. Through life in Christ
15. Through the acceptance of  Christ into one’s life

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

4. They explain how a person can be born again

WEEK 5:  MEANING OF GOOD SHEPHERD

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher reads john 10 verse 1 -18.
2. Teacher guides pupils on the meaning  of shepherd
3. He/she defines a shepherd s a person who looks after sheep, goats, donkeys and cattle. His job is to protect the sheep from external wild animals, thieves etc.
4. She guides pupils to take Jesus as a good shepherd
5. She tells the story  of the lost sheep

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

1. Pupils listen to the bible passage read
2. They listen to TEACHER’S  story and explanation
3. They ask questions.

WEEK 6:  QUALITIES OF A GOOD SHEPHERD

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher uses questioning method to explain the qualities of a good shepherd
2. She asks if the pupils have domestic animals in their home. If yes, they explain how they take care of animals.
3. She asked pupils to identify the qualities of a good shepherd.
4. Teacher mentions the following qualities of a good shepherd e.g. Kindness, loving, caring, protective, etc.
5. She explains the above traits in details
6. She displays a picture of a god shepherd tending his sheep

PUPILS ACTIVITIES

1. Pupils observe the pictures  or drawings on the display and comment on them
2. They mention some qualities of  a good shepherd
3. They take care of their domestic animals at home

WEEK 8:  JESUS THE GOOD SHEPHERD

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher briefly revisits the lesson on the qualities of a good shepherd
2. She shows how Jesus demonstrated  those qualities:
3. He came to look for lost sheep
4. He knows his sheep
5. He protects them, feeds and nurtures them.
6. Teacher explains that the sheep represents the Christians
7. Teacher leads pupils to recite psalm 23.
8. She displays a picture of the good shepherd Jesus.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

1. Pupils participate in the revision exercise
2. They listen to teacher’s explanation
3. They ask questions
4. They observe and comment on pictures displayed

WEEK 9:  JESUS, THE BREAD OF LIFE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher reads john 6 verse 35
2. She explains the bible passage read
3. She guides pupils to explain the meaning of “the bread of life”
4. She defines bread of life as the spiritual food needed by men to live spiritually.
5. She discusses Jesus declaration of Himself as “the bread of life”.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

1. Pupils listen to teachers’ explanation
2. They ask questions and respond to teacher’s questions

• A loaf of bread

WEEK 10:  Needs for physical bread

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher uses questioning method to explain the meaning of physical bread.
2. She explains physical bread as the food we eat to keep us alive.
3. She asked some pupils to mention some types of food like e.g. rice, beans, fufu, amala, tuwo. Etc.
4. She leads pupils to give reasons for eating physical food e.g growth, strength, nourishment, health to stay alive.
5. Teacher displays different pictures/posters of different foods.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

1. People listen to teacher’s explanation
2. They answer and ask questions
3. They participate in class discussion
4. They observe and comment on pictures on display.

WEEK 11:  HOW IS JESUS BREAD OF LIFE?

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher organizes a class discussion on Jesus as the bread of life.
2. She leads the class to identify the significance of Jesus as bread of life in a class discussion.
3. She stresses the following:
4. Importance of the word of God as spiritual food
5. Having faith in God strengthens us
6. Accepting Jesus as lord our lord and saviour will keep us alive forever in the eternal life.

2. Pupils participate in class discussion
3. They state the difference between the brad of life and the bread we eat
