WEEK 2 – 6:  MEANING AND DEFINITION OF CRIME

TEACHERS’ ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher leads pupils to explain the meaning of crime.

She defines crime as an offense that may be prosecuted by the state and is punishable by law.

Or

An action or an instance of negligence that is deemed injurious to the public welfare or morals or to the interest of the state and is legally prohibited.

• Teacher explains the  effect from of crime as not  only on the individual  but also on the  community/society
• She explains that crime is defined by the criminal law of a country.
• Teacher defines criminal law as:

Body of rules and statutes that defines the conduct prohibited by the government because it threatens and harms public safety and welfare and that establishes punishment to be imposed for the commission of such acts.

• Teacher organizes a class discussion on the definitions above.
• She displays picture of a prisoner.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

WEEK 8 – 11:  ELEMENTS OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIOURS

TEACHERS’ ACTIVITIES:

1. The teacher leads pupils to identify various criminal offences.
2. She mentions the following as criminal behaviours:
3. Falsehood
4. Fighting
5. Theft
6. Bodily arm
7. Forgery
8. Examination malpractice
9. Selling of bad food and fake drugs. etc.
10. Teacher discusses the meaning  and definition of each criminal behaviour listed above  one after the other e.g.

Falsehood – means the act of deceiving people or lying to people.

• The teacher states the punishment for each of the offences discussed e.g. falsehood – the accused person will be arrested by the police and charged to court. If found guilty, they can be fined or sentenced to a certain period of imprisonment according to the dictate of law.
• Teacher organizes excursion visit to security agencies within their vicinity e.g. Police Station.
• Teacher display /show video clip of a court proceeding on criminal case.
