WEEK 2:
- Common drugs in our community and the right people to give them
- Meaning and definition of drug.
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:
- Teachers leads pupils to explain the meaning of drug through guided questions.
- Teacher defines drugs as: medical substances for curing illness.
- Teacher shows labels with names of common drugs to the pupils for the purpose of identification e.g. Aspirin, Nivaquine, Panadol, Phensic, etc.pupils to a nearby chemist or pharmacy to show them drugs.
PUPILS ACTIVITIES:
- Listen to teacher’s explanation
- Repeat the definition of drugs after the teacher.
- Observe the labels with names of drugs.
- Participate in class discussion on who should administer drugs/medicine
- Follow teacher to a nearby chemist or pharmacy store.

WEEK 3: IDENTIFICATION OF COMMON DRUGS
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:
- Teacher displays pictures, photographs or posters of drugs.
- She leads the pupils to identify common drugs e.g. paracetamol, Aspirin, Alabukun, etc., herbal remedies e.g. lemon grass, bitter leaf.
- She/he leads class discussion on synthetic and natural drugs.
A synthetic drug: is a chemical drug made by man.
A natural drug: is an herbal concoction e.g. lemon grass, mango leaves, pawpaw, bades of trees, roots of trees, etc.
- She arranges a group discussion on synthetic and natural occurring drugs.
- She invite health officer to give a talk on the topic.

- Pupils identify different types of drugs
- Discuss the differences between synthetic and natural drugs.
- Listen to teacher’s explanation and respond to teacher’s questions.

WEEK 4: RIGHT PEOPLE TO ADMINISTER DRUGS
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES
- Teacher uses guided questions to find out from the pupils, people who can administer drugs.
- The teacher explains who should administer drugs: parents, guardian, teachers, nurses, doctors etc.
- She display pictures of sick pupils in front of a doctor complaining of one illness or the other.
- She state the benefits of using proper drugs prescribed by a medical expert.
- She organizes a nature walk to identify and get some local herbs.

- Observe and comment on the pictures displayed by the teacher.

WEEK 5: WAYS OF IDENTIFYING SOMEONE WHO HAS ABUSED DRUGS

- With guided questions, teacher leads pupils to understand what drug abuse means.
- Teacher defines drug abuse as; intake of medicine without prescription.
- Teacher asks pupils when they first came across medicines
- She leads pupils to describe ways they have been taking medicines/drugs.

WEEK 6: WAYS OF IDENTIFYING SOMEONE WHO HAS ABUSED DRUGS

- Teacher uses questioning methods to explain ways of knowing a person who has abused drugs. E.g. .Untidy appearance, drunken behavior, frequent fighting, inattentiveness, disobedience,
- She displays posters of a drunkard, two people fighting a mad person etc.
- She invites a resource person to talk about someone who has abused drugs.

- Observe posters pictures etc. and comment on them.
- Discuss how drugs are abused.

- Teacher uses questioning methods to explain ways of helping someone who has abused drugs.
- Reporting change of behavior to parents/ teachers.
- Seeking medical attention
- Discouraging self-medication
- Keeping drugs out of reach of children
- She invite a resource person to give a talk on “Ways to assist/ help someone who has abused drugs.”
- She/he organizes pupils to dramatize ways of helping someone who has abused drugs.

WEEK 10: WAYS OF PREVENTING COMMON ILLNESSES – SYMPTOMS

- Teacher explains the term’ “symptom” as a sign of a sickness/ illness
- She uses guided questions to explain symptoms of some common illnesses i.e.
- General weakness
- Lack of appetite
- Headache/ cold
- She ask pupils to share their experiences with the common illnesses and symptoms they have experienced.
- She uses guided questions to explain the causes of common illnesses like dysentery/ diarrhea i.e. dirty and polluted environment, infection.
- She organizes class discussion on “Causes of common illnesses.”
- She displays posters of dirty environment.

- Regular medical checkup
- She displays posters of clean environment, balanced diet.
- She uses guided questions to mention more ways to prevent common illness.
