MODULE CONTENT
Who is a leader? A leader is a person who rules, guides or inspires others.
Leadership is the position or office that inspires people to do things.
TYPE OF LEADERSHIP
The following are different types of leader
- Traditional rulers: they guide people according to the ways of customs and tradition. e.g. king
- Elected leaders: these are leader Selected by a vote for an office or membership, e.g. president, governor, class monitor, chairman.
- Military leaders: these are leaders that guides and direct the affair of the army, navy and air force.
- Religious leaders: these are leaders of different religious bodies such as Christianity, Islamic religion, traditional religion.
- Appointed leaders: these are chosen leaders because they have some training for leadership e.g. headmaster, companies directors.
HOW LEADERS ARE SELECTED
- Traditional rulers: they come into power through appointment or inheritance.
- Elected leaders: these are chosen by election
- Military leaders: they are chosen according to seniority in the army.
- Religious leaders: are choosing based on training..
- Appointed leaders: they are chosen by their leadership qualities in them.
ADVANTAGES OF TRADITIONAL LEADERSHIP
- Promote peace and unity among the people.
- Advises government on the problems and needs of the people.
- Preserve and protects the cultural beliefs and practices of the people
DISADVANTAGES OF TRADITIONAL LEADERSHIP
- Sometimes some are selfish
- Since they can’t be voted out of power easily, they use their position to suffer some persons in the community.
- Some are not able to preserve the traditions of the people.
ADVANTAGES OF ELECTED LEADERSHIP
- The people decides who leads them.
- They attract development project from the government for their communities.
- They organize development activities to meet their peoples need.
- They obey the peoples wish that voted them in power.
- He people decides who lead them.
DISADVANTAGES OF ELECTED LEADERSHIP
- Some care only for themselves.
- Some fail to meetup with the peoples need.
ADVANTAGES OF MILITARY LEADERSHIP
- They defend the country from attracts from other country.
- They make sure their people are safe.
DISADVANTAGES OF ELECTED LEADERSHIP
- They respect nobody, sometimes.
- They are not train to lead the people, so the people might not get impact from them.
- Loss of lives during coup
ADVANTAGES OF RELIGIOUS LEADERSHIP
- They teach the people morals and spiritual lessons.
- They guide and counsel the people.
- They give hope to the people.
- That take care of the needy
DISADVANTAGES OF ELECTED LEADERSHIP
- Some collect excess money from the people.
- Some mislead the people.
- Some have selfish interest.
ADVANTAGES OF APPOINTED LEADERSHIP
- They work according to the peoples wish.
- They bring fast development to their communities
- They try to achieve the target of the people.
DISADVANTAGES OF ELECTED LEADERSHIP
- There will be no development if the wrong person is appointed.
- Bad appointment will make people to lose hope.
- Some behalf rudely due to god fatherism.
What is political party: it is an organization arrange to gain political power. That is to control government affairs. They are parties have the same belief that will benefit the society.
FUNCTIONS OF POLITICAL PARTIES
- They try to convince the people that they the best for the country.
- They campaign for the party’s candidates.
- They choose honest candidate to run for them.
- They identify peoples need.
- They try put their ideas and beliefs into practice.
HOW POLITICAL PARTIES ARE FORMED
- Group of people will come together to form a party
- Give the party name
- Setup their aim and objectives of the party
- They register the party
- They Appoints leaders that will represent them in election.
ATTRIBUUTES OF A GOOD LEADER
- He/she will allow peace to reign.
- Patience
- Loving and caring
- Helpful
ATTRIBUTE OF A BAD LEADER
- High cost of living
- Failure to provide basic amenities for the people.
- Lack of industries
- Rise in unemployment.
- Unequal development.
- Wrong use of people’s money and resources.
- Unfavorable treatment of some parts of the country.
