MODULE CONTENT
Livestock production is the rearing of animals for profit.
RABBIT REARING
A male rabbit is called buck while a Female rabbit is called Doe.
Before rearing rabbits, we have to consider some things such as.
- Choice of Rabbit for Rearing
The farmer have to know the type of rabbit to use by looking at:
- The Ability of the rabbit to grow rapidly
- A good converter of food into body weight
- Ability to resist diseases(disease resistant)
- Ability to give birth to many young ones in a liter.
- Good quality hides and skin
- Choice of Housing/ Hutches: the farmer will check for a good hutch to keep the rabbits.
- Feeding And Drinking Equipment: Feeding Materials such as; Hays, Grasses, Cereals, Grains, leafy Vegetables, dry bread, pelleted ration, kitchen waste, mineral salt, clean, cool water, and concentrates(groundnut, palm kernel, soybeans and cotton seed).
- Disease control
- Records – Births Dates, Sizes of litters at kidling, Size of litter at weaning.
