                RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY

Recreation is an activity that renews our health and spirits by enjoyment and relaxation. It is the sporting activities we engage our self in during our leisure time.

CLASSIFICATION OF RECREATION

Recreation is classified into:

  1. Indoor activities
  2. Outdoor activities

                   CHARACTERISTICS OF RECREATION

  1. Recreation occurs during free time
  2. Is prevent laziness
  3. It is accepted socially
  4. It provides enjoyment
  5. It is voluntary
  6. It is productive in nature
  7. It contribute to the physical, mental and moral development of a child.

THE RECREATIONAL NEEDS OF CHILDREN

Recreation helps to meet the needs of children in the following way.

  1. Need to be free from fear.
  2. Need to feel free from feeling of guilt
  3. Need to be an achiever
  4. Need to belong
  5. Need for love and affection
  6. Need for self-respect through participation
  7. Need for variety and relief from tension

LEISURE AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES PROGRAMMES

  1. Social Activities: Film, Picnics, Parties, etc.
  2. Arts and Crafts:  weaving, clay work, carving, leather work, knitting, etc.
  3. Drama:  radio, television, storytelling, plays, etc.
  4. Indoor recreation: chess, darts, Ludo, draft, Ayo, etc.
  5. Sports and Games: Table Tennis, basketball, soccer, mini –volleyball, etc.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURE

  • The Teacher revises the previous lesson (BASIC GYMNASTIC ACTIVITES).
  • The Teacher introduces the topic (RECREATION ACTIVITIES).
  • The Teacher explains the lessons.

LEARNERS ACTIVITIES

  • Learners participate in the class discussion
  • Learners pay visit to a zoological garden, botanical garden, museum of antiquities.

EVALUATIVE ACTIVITIES

Teacher ask the learners to:

  • What is recreation
  • Mention three (3) characteristics of  recreation
  •  

CONCLUSION: the teacher summarize the lesson.
