Meaning of Natural and basic body movement

Basic body movements are the natural things or step to move our body. Like running, walking, jumping, etc.

Meaning of Time, Space, Mood and Effort in Dance

Dance can be used to entertain us or convey messages. These components will be present

  1. Time: it is the period between movements or repeated gestures in a dance. Timing is very important in dance to give rhythm.
  2. Space: it is the area where a person a person is dancing. It could be a king’s palace, village square, in a hall, in a boat on the river and in a moving van. Space helps the dancers to give adequate expression through movements.
  3. Effort/ force:  effort is the force or energy required for the performance of the dance. When we shake, twist, bend down, jump up and jerk our body during dance. The effort we apply during dance will not be interesting.
  4. Mood: it is the way the dancers feel when dancing .it could be joy, happiness, sadness, excitement, sorrow.it is done to meet the purpose of the dance.

Responding to music using Body Movements

To respond to music using body movement, the dancer notes the beat, tempo or speed of the music. When the tempo is fast, the dance should take a fast movement to meet up. If it is slow, the dancer responds slowly.
