DEFINITION OF SIMPLE MACHINE
Simple machine is any device that make work easier, faster and convenient.
Types of simple machines
- The lever like pliers, seesaws.
- The inclined plane like a sloping board use to bring down heavy load from a trailer.
- The wedge like knife blade, chisels
- The pulley like pulley used in drawing water from well
- The screw like Bolt and nut
- The wheel and axle like wheel that load drum of a crane.
LEVER
Lever is a simple machine used for lifting loads.
Examples and classes of levers
- First class lever :
- Second class lever
- Third class lever
First Class lever: the fulcrum is between the load and the effort. Examples are scissors, seesaws, pliers, spade.
Second Class Lever: The load is between the effort and the fulcrum. Examples are nut cracker, wheel barrow.
Third class lever: the effort is between the fulcrum and the load. Examples are shovel, tweezers.
PART OF A LEVER
There are three part of a lever they are:
- Effort: is the force applied to overcome a load.
- Load: is the Object being lifted.
- Fulcrum is the point of turning.
USES OF A LEVER
- Table knife is used at home for cutting vegetables, fruits.
- Bottle opener in opening of bottle (drink).
- Stapler is use for holding papers, book.
- Shovel is use for digging.
