WEEK 2 -3: MEANING AND DEFINITION OF ROAD ACCIDENTS
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:
- Teachers display posters of various road accidents.
- She/he uses guided questions to explain the meaning of accident.
- She/ he defines road accidents as sudden bad happens on the road which can cause damage or loss of property, physical injuries or loss of life.
- She/he explains roads: an open, generally, public way for the passage of vehicles, people and animals.
PUPILS ACTIVITIES:
- Pupils observe the poster and pictures of accidents.
- Respond to teacher’s questions
- Listen to teacher’s explanation and participate in class discussion
TEACHING/LEARNING RESOURCES/AIDS: poster, pictures, notebooks,
charts.
WEEK 4 and 5: CAUSES OF ROAD ACCIDENTS
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES
- Teacher uses charts to demonstrate further examples/causes of road accidents.
- She invites a resource person like FRSC personnel to give a talk on “causes of road accidents.”
- She/he guides pupils to identify and discuss causes of road accidents.
- Teacher mentions causes of road accidents as
- Bad road
- Over speeding
- Drinking before or when driving
- Bad state of vehicles
- Carelessness and inability to interpret road signs
- Congestion
- Teacher explains in details the above mentioned causes respectively

- Pupils observe the pictures shown by the teacher
- They demonstrate some causes of road accidents
- They participate in the class discussion.
- They
respond to questions and ask questions.

WEEK 6: REMEDY OF ROAD ACCIDENTS
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES
- Teacher briefly looks back at the causes of road accidents, uses questioning method to explain the remedy for causes of accidents.
- She leads class discussion on the frequency of road accidents and proffers solutions.
- Build good road and new road
- Introduce speed limit method
- Good monitoring and use of alcohol detective device
- Enlightenment campaign seminars and workshop for drivers.

- Pupils participate in the revision exercise
- They discuss the frequency of road accidents in the community.
- They discuss how to remove causes of
accidents and reduce accidents.

WEEK 8: GIVING FIRST AID TREATMENT TO ROAD ACCIDENT VICTIMS.
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:
- Teacher briefly looks back at how to make our road safe and accident free.
- He/she explains the effects of road accidents on victim, the family, the country.
- Teacher leads pupils to explain the meaning of first aids treatment through questioning methods.
- She defines it as: First medical treatment administered to a sick or injured person before professional medical help is sought.
- She lists the objects found in the first aid box.

- Scissors
- Bandage
- Pain relieve tablets
- Razor blade
- Cotton wool
- Iodine
- Izal
- She
explains the importance of those items

WEEK 9 -10: HOW TO ASSIST AN ACCIDENT VICTIM
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES
- Teacher briefly looks back at what to do with road accident victims.\
- She/he guides pupils to suggest ways to assist an accident victims.
- She demonstrate uses of the objects in first aid box e.g.
- Iodine for fresh wound
- Clean the wound with antiseptic
- Cover with plaster or bondage
- Administer pills as recommended by doctor
- She directs pupils to find out from home how cuts or burns are treated using first aids.
PUPILS ACTIVITIES:
- Pupils participate in the revision exercise
- They give examples of ways to help accident victims.
- They list some items that are needed
- Responds to teacher’s questions

WEEK 11: GIVING FIRST AID TREATMENT TO ROAD ACCIDENT VICTIMS
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:
- Teacher invites a nurse/dispenser to give a talk on the first aid treatment.
- She displays posters or pictures of victim first aid treatment.
- She ask/he asks questions on the topic “First Aid Treatment.”
PUPILS ACTIVITIES:
- Listen to resource person and participate in class discussion.
- Pupils read the charts
- Respond to questions.
TEACHING/LEARNING RESOURCES/AIDS - Pictures of Nurses/doctors treating accident victims.
- A first aid box or kit.
