Meaning of Drama

Drama is the imitation of events, people’s lives and cations. It is a play that is meant to be performed. Drama may be in written or unwritten form.

People that act drama are called actors (males) and actresses (female).

Meaning of theatre

Theatre is the art of writing and producing plays. It is an artistic performance planned, rehearsed and presented to a group of people called audience for entertainment.

Theoretical performances may be dance, music or drama.

Differences between drama and theatre.

  • Drama can occurs without audience while in theatre, there must be an audience.
  • Actors and actresses play roles of characters without costumes and makeup in drama while in theatre, actors and actresses make use of costumes and make –up.
  • Drama acting can happen anywhere or in any location acting in theatre is done in a specific location knowns as the theatre.

PRESENTATION

  • The Teacher revises the previous lesson (Classification of musical instruments and sounds).
  • The Teacher introduces the topic: Introduction to theatre and drama.
  • He/she define drama and theatre.
  • He/she differentiate the differences of drama and theatre.
  • Teacher leads pupils to mention the differences of drama and theatre.
  • The pupils copy and submit their note for marking.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES:

  • Perform a short drama on “Giving.”
